About nagpur


The most important information about Nagpur is the fact that it is the second capital of Maharashtra. The Nagpur city was established by a prince of the Gond tribe called Bhakt Buland in the first half of the 18th century.

Nagpur is a city in the central part of India. In Maharashtra State. Left side is the map of Maharashtra state shows the position of Nagpur city. Nagpur district is located between 21*45 N to 20*30 N and 78*15 E to 79*45 E, which essentially indicates that Nagpur district is located in the Deccan Plateau. The adjoining districts are Bhandara on the east, Chandrapur on the south, Amravati and Wardha on the west and in the north shares the boundary with Madhya Pradesh.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation is an important part of Nagpur administration. The total population of the city of Nagpur according to 2001 census report is 2.5 million. The main languages spoken here are Hindi and Marathi. The weather of Nagpur is not humid at all. The Nagpur seasons are mainly divided into rainy season, winter and summer.

The city of Nagpur has a well-built infrastructure. The Nagpur infrastructure will be further enhanced with the establishment of two Information Technology parks in the city. It is well linked by all the major means of transport, that is, airways, roadways and railways. The transport communication of the city of Nagpur makes it easily accessible from the rest of the country. The Nagpur airport or the Doctor Ambedkar International Airport operates both domestic as well as international flights. The two important roads in the city are the National Highway number 6 and the National Highway number 7.

Since the city of Nagpur is a cosmopolitan city, people of various religious beliefs reside in harmony in this place. The various religious communities of Nagpur are Hindus, Muslims, Jains, Christians, Parsis.


The railway station of Nagpur links up the city with many other major places of India. The Nagpur railway station is a railway junction situated on the railway lines of the south-eastern and the central parts of India.
