Kids campaign to save lakes during immersion
NAGPUR: Without
hurting any religious sentiments, the members of the Children's Movement
for Civic Awareness (CMCA) have done a fine job of creating awareness
about installing eco-friendly Ganesha idols and immersing them in an
environment friendly manner.
Following a tie-up with the city's Sir Gangadharrao Chitnavis Memorial Trust, the Bangalore-based NGO is not only ensuring that people install idols made of mud and natural colours but also trying to convince them to protect the numerous lakes in the city.
Since the last one year the CMCA has been creating awareness among schoolchildren about civic issues. This year it has added the environment friendly Ganesh festival to its agenda.
"We have 28 volunteers in the age group of 25-77 who are helping the children to run the programme. We just help them understand the CMCA protocol. It is the children, about 1000 in numbers, who go from school to school every week creating awareness about civic issues. This time five CMCA members made special efforts to ensure an eco-friendly installation and immersion," said Nisha Thakur, the project coordinator.
