Nagpur University Failed to implement Semester Pattern Master of Fine Arts (MFA) course

NAGPUR UNIVERSITY NEWS BY TOI  : The tall claims made by the Nagpur University administration about introducing semester pattern and credit system
have been exposed as it failed to implement it in the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) course, which is being conducted at Department of Fine Arts on Amravati Road. NU is the only university in the state which has not implemented the pattern in popular courses like MFA. In other universities, the course was started with the introduction of this pattern itself and has immensely benefited the students.

Sources in NU said the department officials failed to submit the new course syllabus to the university before the deadline. In fact, head of department (HoD) Deepak Joshi submitted the syllabus last week only, almost five months after the academic session commenced on July 1. According to sources, had Joshi and team made the submission before July, the semester pattern could have been also implemented in MFA.

Surprisingly, registrar Ashok Gomase wasn't aware of this and told TOI that he will seek information after joining office on Monday. HoD Joshi confirmed that the semester pattern was yet to be implemented in MFA. "It's a highly creative course and requires time to prepare the sylalbus draft. This course cannot be compared with other PG courses as only experts can provide the creative inputs," he said while justifying the delay.

He added that since the four-year course was practical-oriented, experts need to be careful while drafting the syllabus. "Moreover, there are many branches like dance, drama and music among others. The members have discussed the pros and cons of the course content in detail before finalizing it. We have to plan for the next five years in such situations," Joshi said.

He also admitted that the department submitted the new course content to the NU only recently and it will come for discussion during the Academic Council's meet on November 29. "Only after getting clearance from the council, we will implement the semester pattern. But it will come into effect from the next academic session," he said.

Sources stated that Joshi and team should have started preparing the draft about a year ago when NU announced that it would be implementing the semester pattern in PG courses. "Lack of manpower coupled with MFA department's apathy led to the inordinate delay," said sources and also criticized the NU administration for not taking action against the MFA department officials and the HoD.

In fact, NU was the last to implement the semester pattern in PG courses among all the universities in the state.

Even neighbouring Amravati University had implemented it two years ago. Interestingly, the newly-formed Gondwana University had also started all its courses including undergraduate ones with semester pattern from the first year itself, informed sources.

Nagpur Six seater autorickshaws from other districts ply unchecked

NAGPUR TOI News : RTO and traffic police department are turning a blind eye toward six-seater autorickshaws of neighbouring districts like Yavatmal, Bhandara and Gondia plying illegally inside city limits.

As a result, there's been chaos at many busy junctions, affecting the business of three-wheeler autorickshaws which are supposed to run in city.

These illegal passenger vehicles ply unchecked on Central Avenue, Gandhi Sagar Lake road, Great Nag road and Kamptee road.

Three-wheeler autorickshaw drivers have submitted memorandums to both deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Jivaraj Dabhade and RTO (city) Sarjerao Shelke several times seeking stern action against illegal six-seater autorickshaws and demanded a complete ban on these vehicles in city limits. But both authorities have failed to take any action.

On Saturday, TOI found that apart from vehicles registered at Nagpur RTO (MH31), vehicles with registration number MH26 (Nanded), MH27 (Amravati), MH28 (Buldana), MH29 (Yavatmal), MH30 (Akola), MH32 (Wardha), MH33 (Gadchiroli), MH34 (Chandrapur), MH35 (Gondia), MH36 (Bhandara), MH37 (Washim) ply freely inside city limits.

There are around 25,000 autorickshaws on city roads, of which only 11,000 are permit holders. There are 3,000 six-seater autorickshaws in corporation limits even though they have no permit to ply on city roads. Despite high court directives, they continue to ply in the city.

Sitabuldi is their hub from which they ply on different routes like Pardi, Hudkeshwar, Hingna, Dighori, Manewada, Koradi, Kamptee and Defence-Wadi. Similarly, around 500 Tata Magic vans have started operating from within city limits, the auto union members complained.

These six-seater autos have created havoc on the road between Variety Square and Eighth Mile. ""Illegally overcrowded autos come from Athawa Mile. They pick up passengers from Nagpur University campus, Bharat Nagar, Ravi Nagar, Law College, Bole Petrol Pump, Maharajbagh and Cinemax while traffic cops turn a blind eye,"" pointed out an autorickshaw driver.

However, traffic police officials claimed that they regularly takes action against such vehicles. Citing an example, they said that in this year till October 31, they have penalised 546 autorickshaws plying without permit. But they admitted that despite this they continue to ply in city limits.

Nagpur Citizen Alert Traffic Drive Against Vehicles With Temporary Numbers

Nagpur Citizen Alert : Special Traffic Drive Against Vehicles With Temporary Numbers From Nov 19-25

Nagpur News : The city streets are filled with brand new vehicles zooming in and out without registered numbers, but not anymore. The vehicle owners with temporary number or TC number imprinted on their bikes would face tough times on the roads when the city’s Traffic Department would launch massive drive to catch them in the act. The department is initiating special drive between November 19 and November 25 to check for the vehicles running with TC numbers on its plates. The drive bears emphasis in view of the rising cases of bag lifting and chain snatching in the city, most of which were reportedly committed by the robbers riding two-wheelers without numbers.

Couple of days back, the traffic department had launched similar drive across various places in the city which raised an alarm to the offenders. This time around, the drive would be more focused and intense. The department has also appealed to the vehicle dealers in the city not to hand over vehicles till they receive the registration numbers for the same.

The officials said that the drive would continue beyond the stipulated period also. They have alerted vehicle owners to get their registered numbers before they freak out on streets, in order to avoid any traffic police action against them.

I got a Contract at my home place and I signed it and it was something which I never had expected.
Suhani: Who had given you the first take of your life?
Sara Khan: It’s Rajan shahi, Producer of the “Bidaaii” had given me the first chance to enter into the Industry. From that point my journey is still on.
Suhani: Tell us something about your experience in “Bidaai”
Sara Khan: I will just say that still I am experiencing it so I ll never talk about my experience. it’s a never ending experience of my life , because once you enter in industry then you have to keep moving ahead but if I really need to say about it so I am Enjoying it.
Suhani: Who, among your co-workers, do you like to work with the most?
Sara Khan: Hmm! it’s Angad who was there in Bidaai, He is my best friend till today, I can say he is the best person to work with. And recently, I worked with Ashmit and I must say he is a nice human being. He is so helping, fun loving and caring person. I love to work with him.

Nagpur NMC Diwali gift Insurance policy for girl child

NAGPUR: In a Diwali gift to girls in families living below poverty line (BPL), Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) standing committee has approved an insurance policy for all girls born after June 6, 2012. The beneficiary girl child will get Rs 1.24 lakh on attaining the age of 21, without any investment from her or the family. NMC has decided to implement this scheme through the trusted Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).

The ambitious project has been planned by chairman of standing committee Dayashankar Tiwari on the line of schemes in MP, Rajasthan, Haryana etc. However, NMC is the first civic body to implement the scheme on its own. Most such schemes are funded by either the state government or the centre.

Explaining the scheme announced during the budget presentation, Tiwari said it not only gives financial help to the girl child but also aims to reduce female foeticide cases. "Provision of Rs 1 crore has already been made in the annual budget for the scheme. All girls born after June 6, 2012, will be registered under the scheme within one year of birth. NMC will pay annual premium of Rs 2,258 per child. The beneficiary girl child will get Rs 1,24,500 at the age of 21. The family will get Rs 50,000 in case of the death of the beneficiary child, if she is over 7 years old," he said.

Vowing to bring as many girls as possible under the scheme, Tiwari said that all departments related to the scheme have been directed to collect data on all girls. "Wide publicity will be given to the scheme by displaying banners etc at hospitals. Corporators too will be asked to ensure all girls from their ward are registered. Every effort will be taken to benefit all girls," he said while releasing a poem on saving the girl child.

There were 15 other proposals before the standing committee and Tiwari said the panel was not at all satisfied with the water works department's explanation related to hike in water tariff. "The department has just compared the water tariff of the city to a few selected towns getting water from Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran. It's too late to go into the details, so the proposal has been forwarded to the general body," he said.

Asked about bids received much below than estimated cost of road repair works, Tiwari said municipal commissioner Shyam Wardhane has directed officials to collect 25% security deposit from such contractors. "Contractors will be given back the amount only after defect liability period of two years ends, and the quality and quantity of works has been proven."

The standing committee also passed a proposal related to new administrative building and set the completion target as June 2013. Besides, the committee also appointed a three-member panel to make a list of seized goods and price index for auction.

The proposal for construction of new bridge on Nag river at Juni Shukrawari was also approved in the meeting. The proposal had been pending for over 14 years. "BJP national president Nitin Gadkari had performed the bhoomipujan of the proposed work during his tenure as guardian minister between 1995-99," Tiwari said.

Nagpur Sitabuldi Dhanteras Diwali

Nagpur News: The usually busy streets of Sitabuldi were chock- full of shoppers on Dhanteras, the Sunday preceding Diwali. Clothes, shoes, electronics and furnishings are among the favourites of the teeming crowds that pack the lanes of one of Nagpur’s prime commercial areas this time of year, making the entry of traffic impossible. Neither the enthusiastic shoppers or the busy shopkeepers, however, seem to be complaining.

Nagpur University fortress to guard against agitating students

NAGPUR TOI NEWS: For the fourth day in a row, beleaguered engineering students gathered in front of Nagpur University to press for their demands. On Tuesday NU resembled a fortress with scores of policemen forming a security cordon around it.

The university was besieged by morchas voicing their various demands since morning. Aggrieved students from the law department too gathered before the university seeking postponement of their examinations that begin from Thursday.

Various students' organizations, who were absent from the scene till yesterday, have suddenly found their voice. These include ABVP, NSUI and MNS. According to the agitating students, vice chancellor Vilas Sapkal and pro-VC Mahesh Yenkie are not paying heed to their complaint about undervaluation of their answersheets. They said that instead of solving their problem these top officials have asked them to approach the high court.

Even the police officials led by DCP Zone-I Kailash Kanse gave the students the same advice and also asked them to wait for two more days till the Academic and Management Councils meet on Wednesday and Thursday respectively to decide their fate.

Meanwhile, another group of students met the NU officials requesting them not to defer the BE exams as it was clashing with GATE, scheduled on January 20, and other competitive exams.

Officials, however, blamed colleges for illegally granting provisional admission to ineligible students by flouting norms and then sending them to NU after problems cropped up. They raised serious doubts as to why these students hadn't agitated in the last couple of years.

They claimed that the former controller of examination (COE) Siddarth Kane had allegedly allowed 'jumping' students who failed to clear their first or second year exams to appear in third and fourth year (semesters) exams while flouting rules and regulations.

The exams are conducted as per ordinances 27 of 2008 and 6 of 2009 and granting 'jumping' facility to these students was prohibited. Even 'carry on' facility that allowed admission to such failed students to the subsequent years was also allegedly allowed during Kane's tenure. When the new team of pro-VC Mahesh Yenkie and COE Vilas Ramteke took charge, they stopped these 'jumping' admissions that led hundreds of students to storm the NU premises.

"Many students approached us citing their seniors or their batch mates getting 'jumping' admissions. Only after that we realized that in the last two years, many such admissions took place by blatantly flouting norms and of course with the consent of the former COE," an official revealed. Kane however didn't respond to the several calls made to him.

Panel to probe illegal admissions

Nagpur University seems to have realized its mistake of letting its affiliated colleges off the hook with the latter indulging in granting illegal admissions. VC Vilas Sapkal constituted a panel to probe illegal admissions in colleges offering professional courses like engineering, law and MBA.

The panel will comprise engineering faculty dean Ravindra Kshirsagar, commerce dean Bharat Meghe, law dean Anjali Hastak and the joint director of technical education or his nominee. NU deputy registrar SS Bharambe will be its member secretary. The panel is expected to submit a report within a month.

"The panel will scrutinize all admissions by colleges offering professional education in the last two years. It will also check whether the colleges had illegally granted provisional admissions to garner fees from the students," registrar Ashok Gomase told TOI.

Ravi And Ritu Shastri Nagpur

Nagpur Sports News: The marriage of Ravi Shastri Former cricketer turned commentator is heading towards a divorce. Ravi Shastri and his wife Ritu are ending their marriage according to our reports. The reason behind this decision is merely because of a tiff that the couple had recently had that forced Ravi to take this step.

Ravi Shastri who turned 50 in May has already filed for a divorce thus ending their 22 year old marriage from which they have a 4 year old daughter Alka. It is also noticed that Ravi has left his Worli house and shifted elsewhere. Ritu on the other hand who comes from an Army family was a good dancer but left everything after her marriage to Ravi.

Has someone entered Ravi’s Life? This question keeps coming to our mind whenever we hear  the interview of Ravi’s mother Laxmi as her interview gave us hints of a third person entering Ravi’s life.

During the interview in one such statement she said that Ravi has a number of fans and that made us wonder whether anything is cooking in Ravi’s life. In another statement she said that she receives lots of letters from fans and in one such case they even considered a proposal for Ravi but in turn Ravi said that he is in touch with a girl, which later happened to be is would be Wife Ritu.

A person with such a FAN base would definitely attract a lot of attention and after this incident it would be more. Only time can tell what is the actual side of the story till then we have to just wait and watch.
